Report: Harris avoiding border responsibilities over fears about political future

Despite being selected months ago to serve as the Biden administration’s point person on the migrant crisis plaguing the southern border, emerging reports indicate that the heretofore hands-off approach Vice President Kamala Harris has taken to the role is due to her fears about the harm that being linked to the worsening situation could do to her political future, according to Breitbart.

Though President Joe Biden tapped Harris back in March to handle the fallout from the record-breaking influx of arrivals, it was not long before Harris’ lack of interest in the job started to become apparent, something evidenced by her unwillingness to personally visit the border or hold a press conference outlining administration strategies for addressing the situation.

Once Republicans began questioning Harris’ apparent lack of engagement on the topic, the White House attempted to shift its characterization of her responsibilities, describing her task as one tackling the “root causes” of mass migration “on a diplomatic level” rather than working to remedy conditions on the ground.

According to Breitbart, anonymous sources close to the situation indicated to CNN that Harris and her staff are concerned that her continued linkage to the devastating developments at the southern border could provide campaign fodder for Republicans likely to hinder her future political ambitions – including a possible run for the White House.

The liberal cable news outlet revealed that two officials close to Harris said that she would much rather focus on factors present within key Central American nations likely to drive migrants north instead of working to solve ongoing border difficulties such as overcrowded detention facilities for unaccompanied children – scenarios even progressive firebrand Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) referred to as “barbaric” and “inhumane.”

According to CNN, one of the White House insiders claimed that Biden’s second in command “appears eager for a portfolio that will allow her to achieve political victories, especially in foreign policy, an area where she is far less experienced than Biden. …Harris’ performance is critical to her future political career, which could well include a run for president.”

Indeed, Harris began tamping down expectations almost as soon as Biden named her as something of a border czar earlier this year, saying in March, “Needless to say the work will not be easy,” also asserting, “It’s not going to be solved overnight; it’s a complex issue. If this were easy, it would have been handled years ago.”

Though Harris’ efforts to keep the migrant crisis at arms’ length may be effective in the short term, the growing chorus of critics – not just from the right – just keeps getting louder. Even Democrat Congressman Henry Cuellar of Texas on Thursday emphasized the need for the president and vice president to visit his district and other border regions to see for themselves the need for immediate action.

While Democrat operatives with an eye to the future may view Harris’ laissez-faire tactics on the border crisis as politically savvy, others might suggest that she is missing a golden opportunity to try and prove that she actually has the chops to hold the highest office in the land. Her apparent lack of confidence in that respect is, therefore, telling indeed.

My Thoughts:

If this were easy, it would have been handled years ago.” The problem was solved a few years ago. Biden is his rush to undo everything Trump did, you blew it and now has no idea what to do about it. What’s the matter Joe can’t your script writers come up with some idea for you. This has to be the most useless administration we have ever had.
